Solved Mystery

We have been hearing this weird sort of animal noise lately. It usually happens late at night or early in the morning. We would hear the noise and debate about what it could be. The 2 cats who roam around behind our apartment? A ferret? Maybe even a skunk? The reason the skunk option came to mind was because one morning we woke up and smelled the worst skunk stench. Pretty much we knew a skunk had sprayed right outside our window. It was really strong. So we thought maybe this noise we are hearing could be what a skunk sounds like? We really didn't know for sure what it was. Then one night we were watching TV and once again heard the sound. So this time Dan and I were determined to find out for good what it was! We ran outside to the alley right behind our apartment with a flashlight. It was really dark and as we approached our back window we stopped abruptly at the sight of a round dark lump. We shined the light on it and low and behold, we saw this......

A raccoon!

So the mystery is resolved. Yet I am very confused to see a raccoon that lives in such a big city like this. I mean sure, the Presidio has plenty of raccoons, but we live pretty far from there. We also don't have woods by us so anyway, it surprises me. We have seen trash right by our window and I always thought, who is such an idiot to throw their garbage right here? But I guess this little guy just grocery shops in people's garbage and brings it to his house, which happens to be right by our window. I guess I better make sure I don't leave my windows open.
